Bill Genego is a graduate of Yale Law where he was an editor of the Yale Law Journal and was awarded the Michael Egger Prize, the Israel Peres Prize and the Francis T. Wayland Prize.  Mr. Genego was a tenured clinical law professor at the University of Southern California prior to entering private practice.  He has been recognized as one of the "Top 100" lawyers in California by the Daily Journal Legal Newspaper, is listed in "Best Lawyers in America" for white collar criminal defense and non–white collar criminal defense, and in Southern California "Super Lawyers," which uses a peer assessment process to identify the top five percent of lawyers in specific practice areas.  Mr. Genego’s areas of expertise include criminal trials, appeals, habeas corpus and international extradition.   Mr.Genego has received numerous awards, including the President’s Award from the National Associated of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the President’s Award from the Criminal Courts Bar Association.

Mr. Genego has achieved acquittals in cases ranging from first degree special circumstances murder, federal white collar fraud prosecutions, and misdemeanor prosecutions.  Mr. Genego has a long–history of appellate reversals in a broad range of issues and cases, including bank fraud, conspiracy, controlled substances, entrapment, restitution and international extradition, and his cases have resulted in the adoption of new Ninth Circuit Model Jury instructions for entrapment and materiality. Mr. Genego’s habeas corpus cases include the release of Tom Merrill for special circumstances double homicide and sentence of life without parole; Arthur Lee on a second–strike conviction and twelve year term, Gloria Killian on conspiracy and first–degree murder convictions and a sentence of thirty–two years to life, Harold Hall on a special circumstances first–degree murder charge and a sentence of life without parole and, together with Michael Rubin, James Horton on a first–degree murder conviction and sentence of life without parole.

Mr. Genego’s cases have been featured on 60 Minutes and 48 Hours, and documentary films. He has been a consultant to two prime time network television series, InJustice and Eli Stone.
